Working Titles

“It happened that one day before dinner Domingo and associates were meeting in the back room, and the topic was another mob.  Domingo had grown his mob under their noses in places where they’d shown less or little interest, like Innsbruck and smuggling.  I mean who smuggles things into a town in the middle of the EU, right?  Well Domingo was connected at a civilian airport there.  Anyway, this other mob from Italy was beginning to throw some weight around.

“That day, Carlo and Francesco—don’t really know the second guy’s name—does it matter?—anyway they were out front in the restaurant having beers at a table with a view of the main door and two exits.  In comes three guys from the other mob.  Carlo and Francesco stand up to ‘greet’ them, shall we say.  While two of the intruders talk with Carlo and Francesco, the third goes to an exit right next to the passage to the back room.  In come six more, and it gets rough.  Patty, the owner shouts to Cindy to bust into the back room, as she was in the passage and closer.  As maybe four of the six head that way too, out come four of Domingo’s boys, locked, loaded, and letting it rip.  CIndy is cowering in the men’s room next to the door.

“All hell breaks loose out front.  Patty takes a hit in and out his abdomen, and one through his open mouth and out his cheek.  When Cindy hears him scream, she runs out, sees it was a dumb move and jumps over the bar, landing her arm on some glass in small pools of booze.

“But a bad thing happened—no, I mean really.  A seven year old girl had been in the women’s room while her family was in the restaurant.  She picked then to come out and tries to run to her screaming mother, and a shot bounces off the tile floor, enters her stomach and tears up a lung.

“How horrible!  The poor little girl caught in this terrible fight!” exclaims Kim.

“Now Carlo,” Enzio goes on, “catches this out of the corner of his eye, runs and scoops up the girl, and in the process catches two shots from an AK in his upper leg, and another in his other foot.  He manages to hand the girl to her dad, and then, having fallen, covers them with his two Sig pistols as the family runs out the other exit.
