Kim went along with Enzio and family in the TSA line. When she’d be allowed no further, the kids hugged her. “Kim, we’d be lost without you during this,” said Briggita.
“Yes. My sister’s right. Thanks. We need you,” agreed Eli. Kim’s heart was about to burst, hearing this from the young people.
Enzio motioned the family behind him to go ahead. Eli and Briggita had already gone on. Stepping back, Enzio loosely put his hands towards the back of Kim’s waist. She raised her hands to Enzio’s upper arms. “Eli’s right. We need you. That goes double for me.”
“I’m yours whenever you want me. You know that,” said Kim.
“I think this is hardly the place.”
“What?” said Kim. “You’ve never made love in an airport jetway?”
“Lately, Kim, you know, you’ve been looking like—how do you say it?—the cat who ate the bird.”
“Well, dear, I know one pussy that’s hungry for a certain woodpecker.” Neither of them cared that people were listening, some almost laughing, others turning red while the youngest wondered “What’s up with that,” and high schoolers sniggering.
How does she do this? thought Enzio. Here it’s one of the saddest times in our family and she genuinely makes me happy; almost joyous. He laughed and got back into line, as Kim ducked out under the guide ribbons. Kim and Enzio felt the dam was going to break, sooner rather than later. But it hadn’t been that Sunday.
